Cricket SA and Lions Cricket Support Breast Cancer Care at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital

Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Lions Cricket have officially unveiled the newly renovated Breast Cancer Imaging Unit at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, continuing their commitment to community upliftment through the annual Pink Day initiative.

The upgraded unit now offers a more comfortable and dignified space for patients, with new flooring, lighting, furniture, and equipment. CSA and Lions Cricket also donated items such as patient gowns, scrubs, computers, and wall art to create a homely and supportive environment.

CSA CEO Pholetsi Moseki said the partnership with the hospital reflects cricket’s role beyond the field. “Cricket is more than a game it’s a platform for hope and change. Pink Day brings South Africans together to raise awareness and funds in the fight against breast cancer,” he said.

Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright added that the partnership has made a real difference. “For over a decade, Pink Day has shown how sport can unite people for a purpose. The refurbished Imaging Unit is a lasting symbol of that impact,” he said.

Since 2017, CSA and Lions Cricket have supported the hospital through the Pink ODI Fund, raising millions for breast cancer awareness and care. Their ongoing contributions help ensure patients at Charlotte Maxeke receive compassionate, high-quality treatment and support.
