Haier marked its official market entry with a media launch event in Johannesburg on 2 February 2026, where media, industry stakeholders and partners experienced the brand’s smart appliances through live demonstrations and interactive product zones. The event also highlighted Haier’s broader vision for smart homes, sustainability and digital innovation, and how these trends align with South Africa’s evolving consumer landscape.
Haier, ranked the No.1 Global Major Appliances Brand by Euromonitor International for 17 consecutive years, has officially launched in South Africa, introducing a premium range of smart, energy-efficient home appliances designed for modern local households. The launch represents a significant step in strengthening China–South Africa trade and industrial cooperation, as Haier combines its global technology leadership with a long-term commitment to local market development and consumer needs.
Guided by its vision of “More Creation, More Possibilities,” Haier aims to deliver innovative solutions that improve everyday living while supporting sustainable development and stronger industrial partnerships in South Africa. “South Africa is a very important market for Haier’s global growth,” said Mr. Xinliang Sun, General Manager of Haier South Africa. “We are bringing advanced technology, but also products designed specifically for local needs. Our goal is to deliver appliances that are reliable, energy-efficient and truly relevant to South African households.”
Haier’s entry comes at a time when South African consumers are increasingly looking for reliable, energy-saving appliances amid rising electricity costs and growing demand for smarter home solutions. Urbanisation, expanding household electrification and higher expectations around product performance, sustainability and after-sales service make South Africa a strategic market in Haier’s global expansion. “We understand the challenges facing South African consumers, especially around energy supply,” Sun said. “That is why we are introducing technologies that reduce power consumption and, in future, will include more solar-compatible solutions that can save households up to 70% in energy use.”
Haier’s first range of products, now available through major retailers, includes smart inverter refrigerators with efficient cooling, smart diagnostics and modern design; high-efficiency washing machines that save water, protect fabrics and operate with ultra-low noise; heat pump tumble dryers offering up to 50% energy savings compared to conventional dryers; and smart air conditioners with intelligent climate control, air purification and whisper-quiet performance. Haier also plans to introduce solar-integrated appliances and advanced fabric-care technologies designed to improve hygiene and convenience in everyday household use.
“Technology is at the heart of everything we do,” Sun added. “We are committed to bringing the most advanced innovations to South Africa while ensuring our products match local lifestyles and expectations.” Looking ahead, Haier has signalled plans to deepen its footprint in South Africa by exploring the development of local manufacturing capacity, particularly for televisions and refrigerators, in the coming years. This move could support job creation, skills development and industrial growth.
“We are not here for the short term,” said Sun. “Our vision is to grow with South Africa, contribute to local industry and create value for communities through technology, service and investment.”To support its product rollout, Haier has established a nationwide after-sales service ecosystem, including a national service network, authorised installers in major metropolitan areas, a 48-hour service response target, comprehensive spare parts availability and extended warranty options. This service focus is aimed at building long-term trust and ensuring customer peace of mind. “China and South Africa share a strong partnership in trade and development,” Sun said. “Haier’s launch is another step in strengthening that relationship through technology, industrial cooperation and shared growth.”
