Central Fire Station opening soon
The Central Fire Station is nearly complete and will service the inner city and surrounding areas.
The pictures are from MMC of Public Safety, Dr Mgcini Tshwaku was recently taken on tour of the newly built station by official of the City’s Emergency Management Services (EMS).
According to the Joburg Development Agency or The JDA, they are implementing the new Central Fire Station using a contemporary design, incorporating soft and hard roofs, with durable clay face brick and minimal plastered feature walls. The facility will be low-maintenance, sustainable, and a landmark in the inner city.
The facility will also have a six-storey training tower which will be used to simulate firefighting responses to high rise buildings in Joburg’s CBD.
The fire station replaces the one built in 1906 (closed in November 2019) and is an important heritage site for the city.
