Walking with Purpose Clinix Health Group Donates Over 1,000 School Shoes in Honour of Youth Month and Dr Matseke’s Legacy

By Sithembile Moyo

In a heartfelt tribute to South Africa’s Youth Month and the powerful legacy of the 1976 student uprising, Clinix Health Group has launched a meaningful Corporate Social Investment (CSI) campaign “Shoes for Dignity: Walking with the Youth, Building the Future.”

The initiative sees 1,048 pairs of brand-new school shoes donated to underprivileged learners across multiple township and rural communities served by Clinix hospitals. Beneficiaries include learners from Grade 1 to Grade 12 in areas such as Yeoville, Johannesburg CBD (Selby and Von Weilligh), Soweto (Diepkloof and Dobsonville), Vosloorus (East Rand), Sebokeng (Vaal), and Mahikeng (North West).

This year’s campaign holds added emotional significance as it coincides with the birthday of Dr Khamane Obed Peter Matseke, Founder and Executive Chairperson of Clinix Health Group, celebrated annually on 10 June.

“Youth Day is a sobering reminder of the sacrifices made by generations past so that today’s children might learn in dignity,” said Lebogang Matseke, Group Manager: Corporate Communications at Clinix Health Group.
“As we honour Dr Matseke’s birthday, we are also celebrating his lifelong mission to uplift underserved communities. Providing learners with school shoes is about more than comfort—it’s about restoring pride, dignity, and the ability to walk confidently toward a better tomorrow.”

A Step Toward Educational Equality

For many children, basic school necessities like shoes remain out of reach creating barriers that affect attendance, self-esteem, and educational progress. The “Shoes for Dignity” campaign aims to change that, offering tangible support to families in need while reinforcing the company’s ongoing dedication to youth empowerment, educational equity, and social development.

The donation echoes Clinix’s broader CSI efforts, rooted in its commitment to healthcare access, community upliftment, and long-term investment in young people’s futures.

“The youth of 1976 marched for freedom and a voice. Today, our youth need our action,” added Matseke.
“Whether it’s in a hospital corridor or a schoolyard, dignity must never be optional. At Clinix, we believe in making it foundational.”

Local Schools Grateful for the Impact

The initiative was warmly welcomed by school communities. The Principal of Yeoville Community School expressed heartfelt appreciation:

“We are grateful for this generous gesture. Thank you for choosing us—seeing our learners smile with pride because of new shoes truly goes a long way.”

As South Africa commemorates Youth Month, the “Shoes for Dignity” campaign stands as a reminder that uplifting the youth is not just about remembering the past it’s about acting with compassion and purpose in the present.
