Free entry for senior citizens at Joburg Zoo

Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) is delighted to offer free entrance to the Joburg Zoo to all our senior citizens throughout the month of October and in honour of their significant contributions to society.

The International Day of Older Persons is observed throughout the month of October across the globe. The month has been set aside by the United Nations (UN) under this year’s theme, “Fulfilling the promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Older Persons across generations” and is a call to advocate for the rights and protection of current and future older persons around the world.

Families across our city are encouraged to bring their older persons for a great outdoor experience, fresh air, peace of mind and an array of animals at the zoo. For ease of movement, we have golf carts available for hire inside the zoo.

This month promises seniors 60 years and above, an opportunity to relax while creating long lasting memories with family and friends.

The general public including children will pay the normal entrance fees of R120 per adult and R70 per child. Free access to the Joburg Zoo will apply to the seniors only until 31 October 2023. This offer does not include planned events at the Joburg Zoo, i.e Zoo Trot, etc. and is only valid for entrance to the zoo on normal days.

In South Africa and in most parts of the world, elder persons often carry the heavy burden of caring for many households in their families.

The Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) invites all friends, family, and neighbors to get together in October to honor our senior citizens. By doing this, we uphold the moral principles of empathy, humanity and tolerance in our communities.
