Computer Lab Donation Fuels Maharishi Institute’s ‘Education Town’ Vision

The Maharishi Invincibility Institute’s mission to build a thriving inner-city learning ecosystem has received a significant boost with the establishment of three fully-equipped computer labs. Thanks to a generous donation from the Datatec Educational and Technology Foundation, 300 additional computer stations are now available in Johannesburg’s CBD, enhancing digital access and skills development for students.

This contribution strengthens the Institute’s goal of providing cutting-edge educational opportunities to young South Africans, regardless of their backgrounds. Datatec, a long-time supporter of the non-profit private college, continues to empower students through bursary loans and tech-driven learning initiatives.

Expanding Digital Access for Students

The donation marks another milestone in the Institute’s growth. Two years ago, Anglo American gifted its iconic 45 Main Street building, allowing the institution to expand its student capacity to 3,000. Now, the addition of these computer labs further enhances the Institute’s ability to prepare students for the digital economy.

Maharishi CEO, Dr. Taddy Blecher, describes the support from Datatec as a “game-changer.”

“These labs will drive digital literacy, provide access to online learning tools, and equip students with the essential tech skills needed in today’s job market. Each lab is specifically designed to support different academic programmes at the Institute,” he explains.

Located at 40 Fox Street within the 45 Main Street building, the labs serve distinct educational purposes:

  • First Floor: Dedicated to the Institute’s private secondary school.
  • Second Floor: Home to the Security Mastery Academy, a partnership with CAP Security that provides students with cybersecurity training and advanced tech skills.
  • Third Floor: Supports foundation-phase students in their bridging year.

To ensure seamless learning, Internet Solutions has donated a 1GB dedicated fibre line, guaranteeing high-speed internet access for all students.

Investing in STEM for a Stronger Future

Maya Makanjee, Chair of the Datatec Board and Datatec Educational and Technology Foundation, emphasizes the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in driving economic growth.

“The Maharishi Invincibility Institute is a leader in youth development in South Africa. Supporting their work by providing state-of-the-art computer labs is an honor,” she says. “These students are the future of our nation, and we are proud to contribute to their growth and education.”

Dr. Blecher highlights the labs’ unique impact, particularly for students with minimal prior access to technology. Beyond teaching essential computer skills, the labs also serve as hubs for research, career development, and entrepreneurship.

“These labs aren’t just about technology—they’re about transforming lives,” he adds.

Building an ‘Education Town’

The Institute has a bold vision for an ‘Education Town’—a self-sustaining academic ecosystem in the heart of Johannesburg’s CBD. As part of this initiative, the ‘Field of Dreams’ sports facility is set to launch in August, spearheaded by patron and former South African cricket chief, Dr. Ali Bacher. The goal is to create an inclusive space where students, staff, and the broader community can engage in sports and recreation.

Dr. Blecher sees the new computer labs as an essential component of this broader vision.

“These initiatives work together to provide students with both the mental and physical skills necessary for success in the modern world.”

Opportunities for Corporate Partnerships

As the ‘Education Town’ vision takes shape, the Institute welcomes further corporate collaboration. Companies can support foundational-phase students, enhance security infrastructure, invest in AI-driven education, or assist with student transport solutions by contributing to the purchase of a second-hand bus.

“By getting involved, corporates can play a crucial role in shaping Africa’s future leaders while making a lasting social and economic impact,” concludes Dr. Blecher.

With strategic partnerships and ongoing investment, the Maharishi Invincibility Institute continues to bridge the digital divide, empowering students with the tools they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
