Tree of Success Outreach
Some of the IIE MSA students, who are all IIE MSA Cares (student volunteer body) members, during a recent visit to the Kgatlego Initiative. The students, in celebration of Youth Day, provided a socio-
educational programme aimed at empowering and educating primary school learners through fun, interactive and impactful activities while learning about South Africa’s legacy. During the visit, the children wrote on cards what they wanted to be when they grow up and how to make a difference as the youth of South Africa and placed them on the “tree of success”. IIE MSA is an educational brand
of the Independent Institute of Education (The IIE). After enjoying lunch provided by the IIE MSA Cares committee members, the Kgatlego Initiative children dedicated a dance to the IIE MSA students. “My experience at the Kgatlego Initiative was eye opening. We had the opportunity to see how passionate and excited the kids were to learn about our history. Their dreams ranged from becoming doctors, lawyers and police officers – all aiming to, one day. uplifting and protecting the community. They inspired us to reflect on our own futures and on the impact, we want to make in society. It reminded
me why I love volunteering”. The Kgatlego Initiative provides a space for young people by assisting
with after school homework, health awareness and extracurricular activities with the aim of effecting positive change.
