As the defending champions, Team South Africa faced formidable opponents from neighboring countries such as Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Malawi, Mozambique, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Their success in retaining a top position underscores the rigorous training and commitment of both the athletes and their coaches. The support from local fans, who turned out in large numbers to cheer for the home team, undoubtedly provided an additional boost to the competitors’ morale.
Looking ahead, Team South Africa is preparing for the 10th World Kungfu Championships (WKFC), scheduled to take place from October 14th to 20th, 2025, in Emeishan, China.
This prestigious event, organized under the auspices of the International Wushu Federation (IWUF), offers a global platform for martial artists to showcase their skills and engage in cultural exchanges. The WKFC is renowned for its inclusivity, welcoming competitors of all ages, levels, and disciplines to participate and share the richness of traditional wushu styles.
In preparation for this international stage, the South African Wushu Federation (SAWF) is likely to intensify training programs and selection processes to ensure that the nation’s best talents represent the country. Participation in the WKFC not only provides an opportunity for athletes to gain international exposure but also to learn from peers worldwide, thereby enriching their own practice and understanding of kungfu.
