On September 20, the “Journey into Africa – Xu Hongfei Sculpture Exhibition,” sponsored by the Guangdong Provincial Association of Artworks, organized by the Guangzhou Sculpture Academy, and co-hosted by the “Belt and Road” Development Limited Company of South Africa and the Southern Africa Chinese Entrepreneurs Association, was grandly inaugurated at Mary Square in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The BRICS Summit has just concluded, and President Xi Jinping emphasized that this year marks the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and South Africa, entering a new phase of comprehensive strategic partnership. The consolidation and development of China-South Africa relations not only benefit the people of both countries but also inject greater stability into the turbulent world.

President Xi pointed out that as an important platform for cooperation between emerging markets and developing countries, the BRICS cooperation mechanism has become a constructive force for promoting global economic growth, improving global governance, and democratizing international relations. Taking advantage of the BRICS Summit, we are holding the “Journey into Africa – Xu Hongfei Sculpture Exhibition” in South Africa, which holds significant meaning for strengthening cultural exchanges between China and South Africa.

The Johannesburg station of the Xu Hongfei Sculpture Exhibition is the 50th stop on Xu Hongfei’s worldwide tour. Johannesburg is where Xu Hongfei launched his first exhibition in the “Journey into Africa” series, and it is known that he has plans to hold exhibitions in other African countries later this year.

Since 2013, Xu Hongfei has successfully hosted 49 individual sculpture exhibitions in more than 20 countries, at famous public landmarks, art museums, and various cities in China. He has brought his “Chubby Women” sculptures to five continents, narrating the Chinese story to the world and generating a positive impact on the international stage.
