Emperors Palace Opens Africa’s First Chinese Luxury Gaming Lounge

JOHANNESBURG – Emperors Palace has officially launched the Jade Casino, a new Chinese-inspired luxury gaming lounge that aims to bring an authentic international-style baccarat and hospitality experience to South Africa.
Situated at Emperors Palace near OR Tambo International Airport, the Jade Casino is being positioned as the first dedicated Chinese luxury gaming destination of its kind on the African continent. The launch marks a significant moment for the local gaming and hospitality industry, with Emperors Palace investing in a luxury space designed specifically to cater to the needs of Chinese guests, international business travellers and high-end gaming customers.
The casino group says the development reflects the growing relationship between South Africa and China through tourism, trade and business partnerships, particularly in Johannesburg, which continues to serve as one of the main entry points into Africa for Chinese visitors. Speaking at the launch, Emperors Palace Tables Manager Sikhulile Dlamini said the project was inspired by years of interaction with Chinese patrons who regularly visit the resort. “We spent a long time listening to our guests and understanding what makes them feel comfortable and valued. The Jade Casino was created to offer an experience that reflects Chinese culture, luxury and hospitality in a genuine way,” said Dlamini. “We wanted to create something that feels international but still rooted in the experience our guests are familiar with. This is more than just a gaming floor it is a destination experience.”
Designed with traditional Chinese elements, the venue includes handcrafted décor, private gaming rooms, koi-inspired features, moon gate entrances and bamboo-themed interiors aimed at creating an immersive atmosphere for guests. The casino operates 24 hours a day and includes seven baccarat tables, with three located in enclosed private gaming rooms for premium customers. The venue also features two American roulette tables and a dedicated smoking Privé section designed for high-end players seeking an exclusive gaming environment. Guests can also enjoy Chinese-inspired food and hospitality offerings through the Dragon Bar and Dragon Bowl areas within the casino, adding to the overall luxury experience.
According to Emperors Palace, the development is expected to attract both local and international visitors, particularly Chinese tourists and business travellers using Johannesburg as a gateway into Africa. “Being close to OR Tambo International Airport gives us a unique advantage. We want international visitors arriving in Johannesburg to know there is a world-class entertainment experience waiting for them here,” Dlamini said. He added that the project is also expected to contribute to the local economy through tourism growth and employment opportunities. “The Jade Casino created jobs during construction and continues to support permanent employment across gaming, hospitality and customer service. We see this as a long-term investment in both our business and the tourism sector,” he said.
Industry trends have shown growing international demand for luxury gaming experiences that combine entertainment with cultural authenticity. Baccarat in particular remains one of the most popular games among premium international players, especially within Asian gaming markets.
