Ekhaya Christmas Party Brings Joy to Hillbrow’s Young Community

Ekhaya Park, nestled in the heart of Hillbrow along Claim Street, recently hosted a vibrant Christmas party that brought smiles to over 560 children. Known as one of the safer parks in the area, Ekhaya Park became a hub of festive cheer as children gathered to enjoy a day filled with fun, gifts, and community spirit.
Each child who attended the event received a special gift pack, adding a personal touch to the celebration. A highlight of the day was the much-anticipated bicycle draw, organized in collaboration with Badboyz Security and First Help. “The bicycle draw was a thrilling moment for everyone,” said one of the organizers. “Seeing the excitement on the children’s faces was priceless.”
The annual Kids’ Day at Ekhaya has grown increasingly exciting for the children of Hillbrow, offering a safe and joyous environment. Managed by the Hillbrow Ekhaya Property Owners on behalf of City Parks, Ekhaya Park has become a beacon of hope and positivity in the inner city. The neighborhood has transformed into a “safe, clean, and friendly area of choice,” where families feel encouraged to live and raise their children.
A Social Program with a Purpose
The Kids’ Day event is more than just a party; it’s part of a broader social program that includes activities such as soccer tournaments. Young boys from the local buildings and community participate in matches divided by age groups, fostering camaraderie and youth development. “The Mandela Tournament is a key part of our initiative,” explained a volunteer. “It not only engages the youth but also inspires them to work as a team and stay active.”
This annual event is a testament to the commitment of property owners and local organizations to give back to the community. “For many of these kids, this is the only Christmas celebration they will experience,” shared one of the event organizers. “Through partnerships with companies like Badboyz Security and First Help, we can make this day unforgettable.”
Hendrik , one of the event sponsors, donated several bicycles, while First Help contributed brooms, emphasizing the dual focus on joy and cleanliness. “We hope to inspire these kids to keep the city clean while enjoying their childhood,” said Bafikile Mkhize.
Safety and Gratitude
The safety of the children was a top priority. Badboyz Security ensured that every child returned home safely, with some even being escorted back by security personnel. “It’s part of our culture to prioritize the safety of kids during events like these,” stated a security officer. “We are here to make sure the children are happy and secure.”
The event’s success is a reflection of the ongoing efforts by the Hillbrow Ekhaya Property Owners. Since 2008, they have been dedicated to organizing initiatives that uplift the community and provide meaningful social programs. “We invite others to join us in giving back to the community,” urged one of the property owners. “Hillbrow is a welcoming place, and events like these highlight its spirit.”
Ekhaya Park has truly become a haven for the children of Hillbrow, fostering a sense of belonging and joy. The annual Christmas party is not just an event but a celebration of community resilience and hope for a brighter future.
