Chinese-Funded Enterprises Showcase Social Impact in South Africa
A milestone event took place in Johannesburg on December 11, 2024, as the South Africa-China Economic and Trade Association (SACETA) launched its updated Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report. The report highlights the contributions of Chinese-funded enterprises to South Africa’s economic and social development, reaffirming the growing partnership between the two nations.
Founded in 2011, SACETA represents over 200 Chinese-funded companies operating in South Africa. These companies have played a pivotal role in fostering economic cooperation and shared prosperity under the principles of a “Shared Future & Joint Pursuit.”
The latest CSR Report, which builds on the first edition published in 2018, showcases the impactful initiatives by SACETA members over the years. These include efforts to create jobs, support community projects, and contribute to sustainable growth in South Africa. The report not only celebrates these achievements but also calls for continued collaboration and responsible practices to enhance the benefits of this partnership.
The launch ceremony was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including South Africa’s Deputy President, Paulus Mashatile, and the Chinese Ambassador to South Africa, His Excellency Wu Peng. Their presence underscored the significance of these initiatives in strengthening bilateral relations and fostering mutual understanding.
In his address, Deputy President Mashatile lauded the positive impact of Chinese enterprises on South Africa’s economy, noting that their investments and community programs have been instrumental in addressing key development challenges. Ambassador Wu Peng echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the shared commitment to sustainable growth and the importance of strong economic ties in advancing the Global South.
