A National Platform for Youth Economic Inclusion Powering South Africa’s Youth Economy from Youth Inclusion to Economic Participation
South Africa is confronting a defining economic moment. With youth unemployment standing at 41% nationally and exceeding 90% in parts of the Vaal Triangle, the sustained exclusion of young people from productive economic participation has become a systemic risk to economic growth, labour-market sustainability, corporate talent pipelines, and long-term national competitiveness.
What was once framed primarily as a social challenge has now become a strategic economic imperative. When millions of capable young people remain outside the productive economy, the consequences ripple across business productivity, innovation capacity, consumer markets, and national development trajectories. Against this backdrop, Vaal EmpowaYouth Week 2026 will take place 20–24 April 2026 in Sebokeng, positioning the Vaal Triangle as a national convening point for a bold new agenda: Powering South Africa’s Youth Economy.
Designed as a national platform for youth economic inclusion, the initiative represents a shift from dialogue to delivery and from youth inclusion to real economic participation. The platform launches a youth economic activation engine purpose-built to convert youth potential into measurable economic outcomes. Built for scale, execution, and long-term replication, Vaal EmpowaYouth Week connects young people directly to employment pathways, accredited skills development, enterprise participation, innovation ecosystems, and future-facing industries, delivered through coordinated public-private partnerships focused on measurable outcomes, accountability, and economic impact.

All outcomes will be tracked, verified, and reported, reinforcing the platform’s commitment to delivery, transparency, and measurable economic participation.

Leadership Perspective
According to Simphiwe Masiza, Founder and Executive Producer of EmpowaYouth, the scale of the challenge requires a fundamentally different response. “Youth exclusion is now a direct threat to economic stability, market resilience, and long-term national competitiveness,” said Masiza.
“Vaal EmpowaYouth Week is not simply an event. It is a working economic engine designed to connect more than 10,000 young people to real opportunities, while advancing our collective mission of Powering South Africa’s Youth Economy through measurable, auditable outcomes for partners and for the country.” By bringing together government institutions, corporate leaders, innovation ecosystems, investors, and young talent, the platform aims to demonstrate how coordinated public-private collaboration can accelerate youth participation in the productive economy at scale.
In doing so, Vaal EmpowaYouth Week positions the Vaal Triangle as a national laboratory for youth economic participation, a place where inclusion translates into opportunity, enterprise, and long-term economic value.
