Two Killed, 13 Injured in Taxi Crash on M2 in Germiston

Two people have died and 13 others were injured following a serious taxi crash on the M2 freeway in Germiston on Tuesday morning. According to emergency officials, a fully loaded Toyota Quantum taxi collided with a stationary perimeter wall fence near the intersection of the M2 eastbound and Refinery Road. The crash was reported at around 06:15, prompting a rapid response from rescue teams.

Emergency services from the City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services arrived on the scene and immediately began assessing the situation and treating the injured. Paramedics declared the male driver and a female passenger dead at the scene after both sustained fatal injuries.

Five passengers were found in critical condition, while another five were seriously injured but stable. Three passengers sustained only minor injuries. All survivors received medical treatment on-site before being transported to nearby hospitals for further care. Rescue teams had to use specialised hydraulic equipment to free the trapped driver from the wreckage, highlighting the severity of the impact.

The crash led to the temporary closure of two lanes on the M2 as emergency crews worked to clear the scene. Officers from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department were also present to manage traffic and begin investigations into the cause of the accident. The bodies of the deceased were later transported to a local pathology facility in Germiston.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads, especially during peak morning traffic.
