Run for a Cause: 14,000 Participants Take on the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge in Johannesburg
Johannesburg came alive on the evening of March 13, 2025, as 14,000 participants from over 250 companies gathered at the Wanderers Club for the 20th edition of the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge. The annual event, known for promoting workplace wellness and team spirit, was a vibrant celebration of fitness and camaraderie.
A Night of Triumph
The race saw outstanding performances from corporate runners, with Samuel Matsepe of Implats emerging as the fastest male finisher, completing the 5.6km course in an impressive 17 minutes and 18 seconds. For the women’s category, Stella Marais Stapelberg of KPMG LLP claimed victory, crossing the finish line in a swift 21 minutes and 52 seconds. This marked Matsepe’s first podium finish at the event, a remarkable achievement in a highly competitive field.
A Global Movement
Johannesburg is the first stop in this year’s J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge Series, which spans 16 cities across eight countries and six continents. The event continues to inspire employees worldwide to embrace fitness as a means of fostering collaboration and team spirit in the workplace.
Corporate Participation & Giving Back
Leading corporations, including Investec, Rand Water, and Nedbank, turned out in large numbers, with Investec fielding the most participants. Beyond promoting fitness, the event also made a meaningful impact through its long-standing partnership with the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Since 2014, the foundation has benefited from J.P. Morgan’s support, positively affecting over 40,000 lives through 25 NGO programs, including initiatives for people with disabilities and job creation.
A Star-Studded Event
Adding to the excitement, notable Laureus South African ambassadors such as Olympic sprinter Akani Simbine, mountaineer Deshun Deysel, media personality Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp, and rugby legend Corne Krige joined corporate teams on the track. The night ended on a high note with a performance by South African music duo Locnville, giving participants a well-deserved celebration after completing the race.

The next stop on the 2025 J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge Series is Singapore on April 10, as the movement continues to promote workplace wellness and global camaraderie. With its strong turnout and inspiring performances, Johannesburg has once again set the tone for another exciting season of corporate fitness and unity.
