Heritage Day at JGPS (Johannesburg Girls Preparatory School) was nothing short of spectacular, filled with colour, culture, and community spirit. The school grounds came alive as parents, learners, and special guests gathered for the much-anticipated Heritage/JGPS Beauty Contest.
Families arrived early, cooler boxes in hand, ready to enjoy the sunshine and the celebration. The atmosphere was festive as people from different cultural backgrounds proudly came together, showcasing the beauty of South Africa’s diversity. District officials honoured the occasion with their presence, and Ward Councillor Zanele joined the festivities, warmly engaging with the community.
The programme brimmed with music, dance, and laughter. Each performance told a story of heritage and unity, drawing applause and joy from the crowd. Even the school principal joined in, delighting everyone with an energetic Tsonga dance move that sparked cheers and ululations.
Of course, no Heritage Day celebration would be complete without traditional food. Guests savored hearty dishes of tripe, samp, pap, chicken feet, and rich beef stew meals that not only filled stomachs but also reminded everyone of home, tradition, and togetherness.
“This event shows us the richness of who we are as South Africans. Let’s continue to enjoy our culture and embrace it fully,” said Councilor Zanele Nyembe ward 62, capturing the spirit of the day.
The JGPS Heritage Beauty Contest was more than just a competition; it was a true reflection of unity in diversity families and communities coming together to celebrate what makes them unique, yet proudly one.
