Johannesburg residents are being invited to lace up their walking shoes and rediscover the heart of the city as entries officially open for the 2026 edition of the 702 Jozi My Jozi Walk the Talk. The popular annual event, hosted by Radio 702 in partnership with Jozi My Jozi and the City of Johannesburg, will take place on Sunday, 26 July 2026, with organisers promising more than just a walk through the city streets.

This year’s event has been reimagined to focus on reclaiming and reconnecting with Johannesburg’s inner city, giving participants the opportunity to experience the CBD through routes designed to highlight the city’s culture, architecture and ongoing urban renewal. Walkers can choose between 5km, 8km and 15km routes, all starting and ending at the historic Ellis Park Stadium. Organisers say the routes will take participants through some of Johannesburg’s most iconic precincts and creative spaces, showcasing a city that continues to reinvent itself despite its challenges.

The initiative is backed by banking giants Absa and Standard Bank, who have partnered with Jozi My Jozi to support efforts aimed at improving safety, cleanliness and public infrastructure in the CBD. According to organisers, the collaboration reflects a growing commitment from both the public and private sectors to revitalise Johannesburg’s inner city and restore confidence in public spaces.

The event also carries a strong social impact element. Participants will have the option to purchase Mi-Change blockchain vouchers during registration, which will assist homeless people in Johannesburg through partner organisations MES and U-Turn. The vouchers can be redeemed for essentials such as meals, shelter, clothing and toiletries. Transport accessibility is another major focus for this year’s walk, with Gautrain and PRASA partnering with the event to provide public transport options for participants travelling to Ellis Park.Speaking ahead of the event, 702 station manager Alastair Teeling-Smith said the walk is about more than fitness. “The 702 Jozi My Jozi Walk the Talk offers a powerful opportunity for Johannesburg’s residents and visitors alike to reconnect with the city’s vibrant heart. Through our proud partnerships, we unite diverse efforts aimed at making our inner city safer, more accessible, and full of life,” he said.

He added that the event demonstrates how collaboration and community spirit can help transform public spaces while also supporting vulnerable communities. Entries opened on 30 April and will close on 22 July 2026. All participants will receive a commemorative medal marking their contribution to Johannesburg’s renewal journey.Organisers have reminded participants that pets, bicycles, blades and mechanically operated devices will not be permitted on the routes to ensure the safety of walkers.
