Empowering Women Through Education Joyce’s Story of Grit and Greatness
Women’s Month is a celebration of strength, resilience, and the boundless potential of women who dare to dream. It is a reminder that education is not just a pathway to knowledge, but a powerful tool for independence, leadership, and transformation. Few stories embody this truth as vividly as that of Joyce Munyangama – a Boston City Campus graduate whose academic journey sparked the creation of a thriving business, built with passion and determination.
Joyce’s warmth and energy fill every room she enters, but behind her bright smile is a story of hard work, sacrifice, and vision. She began her career as a waitress, working long hours while yearning for more. “I realised I needed to start setting and achieving goals,” Joyce reflects. “I made a strategic decision to become the best version of myself – no matter how long it took.”
Her first step was enrolling at Boston City Campus Orange Grove for a Short Learning Programme (SLP) in Data Capture, followed by a Computer Clerk course. These skills opened her eyes to the possibilities that education could bring. Fuelled by ambition, she pursued a Higher Certificate, which in turn gave her the entrance requirements to study towards her BCom degree in Management Marketing. Years of balancing work, studies, and personal growth culminated in her Boston Postgraduate Diploma in Management – an achievement that speaks to her perseverance and love of learning.
In 2015, Joyce transformed her vision into reality, founding JM Property Utilities Solutions, a 100% South African black woman-owned company specialising in innovative property utilities services and management. Today, with over a decade of industry experience, Joyce leads her business with values of trust, reliability, and excellence. Her company has built strong relationships with local authority utilities consultants, officials, and legal entities – a testament to the credibility she has earned.
Her advice to other women is practical and powerful:
- Have a vision and dream big.
- Take the first step, even if it’s small.
- Work hard – and then work even harder.
- Keep learning, no matter how busy life becomes.
- Face your fears and keep showing up with passion.
Women’s Month reminds us that barriers can be broken and ceilings shattered when women have access to education. Joyce’s story is proof that with determination, support, and the right opportunities, women can lead, innovate, and uplift others along the way. “Have faith in yourself,” Joyce says. “Be proud of yourself, and never wait for something to be handed to you – go out there and make it happen.”
If Joyce’s journey inspires you, take the first step towards your own success. At Boston City Campus, we offer flexible, career-focused qualifications designed to fit your lifestyle and ambitions.
