China, Liberia Reaffirm Commitment to Stronger Bilateral Ties and Multilateral Cooperation
BEIJING – China and Liberia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations and expanding cooperation on multilateral and regional issues following a high-level meeting between officials from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and their counterparts from Liberia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration on global governance, regional peace and security, sustainable development and economic cooperation, reflecting the growing partnership between the two countries and their shared commitment to promoting development across Africa and the Global South.
Following the meeting, the Chinese delegation described the discussions as productive and forward-looking.
“We had a good exchange with colleagues from the Liberian foreign ministry on multilateral issues and regional cooperation,” the delegation said.
The talks come at a time when China continues to deepen its engagement with African countries through strategic partnerships that promote trade, infrastructure development, education, healthcare and people-to-people exchanges. Liberia has remained an important partner in West Africa, with the two countries maintaining friendly diplomatic relations based on mutual respect and shared development goals.
Officials explored ways to strengthen cooperation within international and regional organisations while highlighting the importance of multilateralism in addressing global challenges such as climate change, food security, public health, peacebuilding and economic recovery. Both sides agreed that greater collaboration is essential to ensuring that developing countries have a stronger voice in shaping global governance.
China has supported Liberia through a range of development initiatives over the years, including infrastructure projects, agricultural cooperation, technical assistance and capacity-building programmes. These partnerships have contributed to Liberia’s efforts to improve public services, strengthen economic resilience and promote sustainable development.
The meeting also underscored the growing importance of Africa-China cooperation under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which has become a key platform for advancing mutually beneficial partnerships. Through FOCAC, China and African nations continue to pursue initiatives aimed at industrialisation, digital innovation, green development and improved connectivity.
The Chinese delegation expressed confidence that the latest discussions would help unlock new opportunities for collaboration and further strengthen the long-standing friendship between the two countries.
“Looking forward to new breakthroughs in China-Liberia relations as we work together for shared progress,” the delegation said.
Analysts say the renewed commitment reflects the broader trend of stronger China-Africa relations, with increasing emphasis on practical cooperation, investment and knowledge sharing. Liberia, which is working to accelerate economic growth and regional integration, stands to benefit from expanded partnerships in infrastructure, trade, education, technology and human resource development.
