Five South African women have been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport after police uncovered drugs valued at more than R5 million concealed on their bodies.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the arrests were made on Saturday, 28 March 2026, during a joint operation with the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA). Authorities said the five suspects, believed to be drug mules, were allegedly en route to China via Dubai when they were intercepted.“A search led to the discovery of drugs hidden in various ways, including inside their sneakers, underwear and private parts,” SAPS said in a statement.
The women are expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 31 March, where they will face charges related to drug trafficking. Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the full extent of the operation and any possible links to broader trafficking networks.
