Celebrating the Strength and Spirit of Women

By Thembi Moyo

August, recognised as Women’s Month in South Africa, is a time to reflect on the unique journey of being a woman. It is no easy task. To be a woman is to carry many responsibilities sometimes silently, often without recognition, but always with resilience and love.

A woman often carries the weight of her family, her community, and her work on her back. She is a caretaker, a leader, a provider, and a source of comfort. Yet, she rarely keeps the focus solely on herself. She shares her time, her energy, and her compassion generously, even when it demands more than she thought possible.

It is a special gift to be a woman. There is an inner strength, a quiet drive, and a deep sense of responsibility that pushes her to go beyond expectations. Many women work tirelessly behind the scenes, shaping lives and influencing outcomes in ways that often go unnoticed. Yet, when you look closely, you see the remarkable dedication and capability that only a woman’s touch can bring.

But with all these roles and responsibilities, women must remember one crucial truth: self-care is not selfish it is essential. Whether through taking time to rest, connecting with friends, or enjoying hobbies, every woman should make space for her own wellbeing. Health is the foundation of everything. Without it, the ability to nurture, lead, and create is diminished.

Women must learn to pause, breathe, and replenish their energy. As much as they are pillars for others, they must also be pillars for themselves. This Women’s Month is not only about celebrating the incredible contributions of women but also reminding each one to cherish her own life, health, and happiness.

As a woman, I feel privileged. I am proud. And I am committed to continuing the journey with strength, joy, and grace knowing that being a woman is not just a role, but an extraordinary gift.
